AKC Canine Health Foundation
New research is being done all the time to try and increase the knowledge of the veterinary community and the public about genetic problems in dogs. The AKC Canine Health Foundation,
http://www.akcchf.org/ organizes research into canine health, and provides free information online, and in printed form to members. The website has many useful links to health resources on the web. Their recent 2002 veterinary conference  was summarized in the AKC’s magazine, the AKC Gazette.

Archived articles
posted online at: http://www.akc.org/pubs/gazette/gazettearchives.cfm

Hunter's Heart subscribes to this magazine and we absolutely love it. (The price is fairly expensive after the international shipping and exchange rate.) But there's tons of valuable information about health, training, books, resources, and even the breed columns are often useful to people who want to learn more about all breeds of dogs. We think the price is well worth it.

http://www.vmdb.org/cerf.html
Did you know that Glaucoma is a genetic disease associated with the Brittany breed? CERF allows breeders to ensure that breeding stock has no inheritable eye problems.

If you become a member, you get the list of people and dogs (grouped by age) who passed CERF clearances in the last few years. Also for sale is a list of guidelines for breeding dogs (within your breed of interest), based on CERF findings. We are members and find the information very worthwhile.

E-MAIL LISTS & ONLINE COMMUNITIES

These discussion groups are an interesting way to learn more about Brittanys: living with them, competing with them and a whole lot more... We've listed a few we're familiar with & some that have been recommended to us, but if you go to a place like Yahoo Groups you'll find lots of dog related lists.

DISCLAIMER:  These listings don't necessarily mean that we endorse these people or services. We are unable to check them all out. The listings are for your convenience. At the time we created the link, we felt that the site had useful information and did not promote puppy mills or irresponsible breeding. Since we have no control over the sites, they may have changed since we originally linked to them. If you feel a site is inappropriate, please let us know.

SUBMITTING NEW LINKS: If you or someone you know would be a good contact for Brittany owners visiting our site, feel free to e-mail us and we'll consider adding you to our website. It's free. (Our main goal is to let readers access the information that they'd find it difficult to find otherwise.)  Please limit any ads you want posted to 30 words. (If we feel the posting gets too long, we will edit it for length. We reserve the right to refuse postings we consider to be inappropriate for any reason)  Send your contact information to us at webmaster@huntersheart.com, and keep us up to date if it changes. If you have a website, we'd also appreciate it if you'd add a link back to us at http://www.huntersheart.com  Thanks.

The Brittany Circle

Online Community to discuss the Brittany. Including Pedigrees, Field Trials, Performance Events, Showing, Breeding Rescue, the French Brittany, plus add your Litter Announcements, Available Rescue Dogs, Young Started Dogs for Sale, and Stud Service Announcements or Inquiries! And if none of the above interests you - just stop in at the forum and leave your link.

This site is just starting out in fall 2001, but promises to be an interesting forum for Brittany discussion as it grows. For a full description, rules and details on joining, visit the homepage: http://www.angelfire.com/al4/brittanycircle/
The moderator is “Brittanyfancier”, who you can email at: TheGroomShop@cs.com

CKC obedience list
http://www.egroups.com/group/CKCObedience
Discussion of Canadian obedience competition, with lots of training tips.

Dualbrittanys
http://www.egroups.com/group/dualbrittanys
A large group with a lot of postings about Brittanys in hunting, field trials, shows & breeding.

Real Dog Training
http://www.egroups.com/group/realdogtraining
Another large group (& a lot of postings). Discussion of training, including positive & negative reinforcement. This group does not allow flames in response to aversive training methods discussed. Because they're dealing with all breeds, many of the harsher corrections mentioned here would not be a good idea for dealing with Brittanys. But there are lots of good tips that do apply to Brittanys, you just have to use your own judgment.

Shy Dogs
Some dogs are shy or fearful, from circumstance or temperament. Living with these dogs, training them, and helping them to modify their behavior are all discussed on this list, which is intended to help provide resources for anyone interested, from dog owners to shelter workers to breed rescue organizations.

In November, 2001, this list moved to yahoo groups and the new list owner is Amy.  To subscribe, send an email to: shy-k9s-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shy-k9s if you already have a Yahoo groups account.

Unfortunately, no online searches were allowed at the time we added this link. If you are not with the participating universities, the fee is $150 USF per search.
