On Wednesday, November 7, 2001, we evaluated the litter of Chase X Dixie pups. The pups were 6 weeks of age.  Carla, Gary, Lori, and our professional handler, David Scheiris, were present. We spent time with them at Carla and Gary's house (a strange new environment), introduced clicker training, and watched them interact with people and with each other.

Posted above are photos of the show stack (left side), right side, front and rear views of the pups.  The numbers on the photos refer to the birth order.  The letters refer to sex and which type of collar the pup is wearing.

The three girls are in the collars with the pink tones:
2FRP –born second, female, with the red plain collar
3FRC – red cows collar
5FPS – purple sheep
And the four boys are in the darker collars e.g. blue:
1MBB –firstborn, male, with blue bunny collar
4MBP – black plain
6MGC – green cars
7MBP –blue plain

We plan on further evaluations at 7 and 8 weeks and will try to post more photos (with the individual pups wearing the same collars).  We will let you know if any of the puppies changes significantly.  Although we have a lot of experience evaluating puppies, surprises can and do happen.

Our next evaluation of the pups will be on Wednesday, November 14 (at 7 weeks of age).  We’ll see if their conformation has changed significantly; and more carefully observe their movement outside. Now that they understand that the clicker means a treat is coming, I’ll work on training the sit and see who catches on the fastest. And do the formal puppy temperament tests, including checks for natural desire to retrieve, eagerness to please, and forgiveness.

We have some initial ideas about which pup is the best match for which family.  But we won't be making final choices until at least 8 weeks.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Carla Simon
